Today, we are talking hair and makeup. We know our seniors give a lot of thought to their fashion choices in the months and weeks leading up to their session. But you also need to start planning your hair and makeup. The right hair and makeup in your senior pictures can take them from beautiful to absolutely stunning. After all, this is one of the few times in your life you will get to have a full photo shoot just to celebrate you! We want to make sure you look your very best.
I recommend that my clients have their hair and makeup professionally done by Kim and Stella of Kinna Blow Dry Bar. In fact, hair and makeup appointments are included in our top package. But no matter which package you choose, I suggest adding that small additional cost and making an appointment.
Why do I feel so strongly about having hair and makeup done professionally? Professionals know how makeup will translate on camera and use the best products for HD photos. They have quality waterproof makeup that won’t sweat off in the Florida humidity and the right hair products to create volume and fight frizz without weighing your hair down or making it appear greasy.
Whether you choose to have your hair and makeup done by the pros or plan to do your own, there are a few things you need to think about when you are planning for your session.
Makeup
Even if you don’t wear much makeup on a day to day basis, you want to wear it for your photos. The goal is to make you look like the best version of yourself. Your makeup can be casual, glamorous, or sophisticated, but the best makeup will accentuate your favorite features.
You should wear more makeup than you would normally wear - cameras don’t pick up the same contrast and definition our eyes see in person. Wear lipstick and mascara. Avoid shimmery makeup, as matte photographs better. And don’t forget your nails. They can be left natural, if you choose, just make sure they are trimmed, buffed, and clean. If you paint them, choose a neutral color that matches all of your outfits
Hair
Remember, you want to look like yourself . . . on your very best hair day, of course. Do not try a new style for the first time the day of your photo session! Schedule a regular hair salon appointment to freshen your style one to two weeks before your session so your hair looks its best. I also recommend using a product to minimize frizz since you will be outside for part of your session.
Practice your whole look about a week beforehand and have a friend or family member take your picture up close and from a distance, inside and outside in natural light. That way you can really see how your hair and makeup look on camera
No matter what vibe you are going for - casual to full-on glam - hair and makeup are an integral part of any look. Fall sessions are filling up fast, so book today for the full senior experience with JennyPuranenPhotography.
