When your kids look back at memories of their childhood, will you be in the photos?
Nothing against Dad, here, but if your household is anything like mine, there are WAY more pictures of the kids with Dad than there are with Mom. This is because moms tend to be the memory keepers in the family, and we are the ones behind the camera, capturing those special memories. Unless they make a special point to do so, moms forget to make sure they are included in all those precious, or even routine, family moments.
This could be because moms are often hesitant to be photographed when looking less than perfect - which we totally shouldn’t be - but we gracefully decline pictures when we have unwashed hair or no makeup on. The truth is, when our kids are grown, they aren’t going to care that Mom’s hair is in a messy bun or she has an old T-shirt on. They are just going to look at the photo and revisit a cherished childhood memory.
While I would encourage all moms to worry less about how they look and jump in front of the camera, planning a special “Mommy and Me” photo shoot is the perfect opportunity to catch everyone at his or her very best. A professional photographer can help you capture the special bond between you and your kids. Often times the less posed photos are the ones that really tug at your heartstrings. The tickles, giggles, hugs that you normally wouldn’t shoot often make the best pictures.
And these photo sessions aren’t only for newborns and toddlers! Kids grow up so fast, it is important to capture their precious faces at every stage. A photo session with your elementary school age kids, tweens, or teens, is a mini time capsule of that specific point in time.
A special session dedicated to you and the little ones you love would make an incredible Mother’s Day gift from your significant other … or treat yourself to a gift you will cherish forever.
